Diary 13 March 1835 - 6 July 1835 on board the Alexander from London to Sydney. The author describes going by steamer Mercury to Gravesend; meets Alexander fellow passengers; speaking to other vessels; reading from scriptures on sundays; seeing porpoises; weather; daily latitude and longitude; playing draughts, cards, whist; land passed; all passengers and crew attending 'Divine worship'; Doctor took too much laudanum for his toothache and went crazy, threatening to shoot people; saw flying fish; whale spouting; sharks caught; storm; in calm weather they went for a row in the boat and splashed water; played cribbage; had a haircut; 2 passengers had a fight over whether they would have the crossing of the line ceremony; a pig fell overboard and drowned, and the author laughed; crossed the line and the author paid the fine of 2 bottles of grog to avoid being tarred and shaved; describes the ceremony and dancing; he's waiting for a homeward bound boat to send mail home; cape pigeons and albatross seen; [cont.], [cont.] ; caught an albatross with 8' 9" wingspan; saw a water spout, which he said was quite rare; 2 sailors had to go up the masthead for being disobedient; huge wave, and one cabin drenched - author shared his bed with the cabin's occupant; diary is unfinished.
